How to test your webcam
- Allow camera access when your browser asks. The test starts as soon as you do.
- Look at the preview. It is mirrored, the way you look in a mirror, so writing on a mug reads backwards. That is normal.
- Read the numbers under the preview: resolution in pixels per frame, and frame rate in frames per second.
- More than one camera? Pick a different one from the dropdown and the preview switches over.

Does my video get uploaded?
No. The whole test runs in your browser. Video frames are shown on your screen and nothing is recorded, stored, or sent anywhere.
Why is my camera dark?
The usual causes are a privacy shutter or tape over the lens, another app holding the camera, or a closed hardware switch on the laptop. Very dim rooms also give a near-black image. Let in more light, open the shutter, close other apps, and start the test again.
What do resolution and FPS mean?
Resolution is the number of pixels in each frame, shown as width × height (for example 1920 × 1080). FPS is frames per second, how many images the camera delivers each second. Video calls use about 30 FPS; 60 FPS looks smoother in fast motion.
Which browsers work?
Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari all support camera access. The page must be loaded over HTTPS or on localhost, because browsers block cameras on plain HTTP.
