How to make a spelling worksheet

  1. Type your spelling words into the word list box, one per line. Blank lines are dropped, repeated words are kept once, and the list is capped at 50 words.
  2. Pick how many words each row should hold. Two per row keeps long words readable; one per row leaves the most writing space under each scramble.
  3. Set a seed if you want to reproduce or share the exact sheet later, then press Generate. Every word of two or more letters is shuffled into a different letter order.
  4. Press Print. The printed page is your title, the instruction line, and the numbered scrambles, sized to fit a sheet of paper. The answer key stays on screen.

Spelling worksheet questions

Are my spelling words uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything runs in your browser tab: the words are read from the text box, the scrambling happens in local JavaScript, and nothing is ever stored or sent to a server. The page sets no cookies and works offline once it has loaded. Ads on the page follow their own policies.

What does the seed do?

The seed is text hashed to a number that drives the letter shuffling. The same seed with the same words and layout rebuilds the exact same worksheet, so you can share a seed with another teacher and both print identical sheets. Change the seed to get a fresh scramble of the same words.

How many words can a worksheet hold?

Up to 50 words, one per line. Blank lines are dropped and a word repeated in different letter cases is kept only once, in the spelling you typed first. Extra words past the cap are listed under the sheet so nothing disappears silently.

Which grades is this for?

Any grade from early elementary upward; the word list sets the difficulty. Short three- and four-letter words suit kindergarten and first grade, while longer multisyllable words challenge upper grades. Words of one letter, like a or I, pass through unscrambled, and a word whose letters cannot be rearranged, like aaa, stays as it is.

How does the answer key work?

Press Show answer key and every scrambled word is listed with its number, matching the numbering on the sheet. The key is screen-only: it is left out of the printout, so the copies you hand out never give the answers away.
