Tick the audio box in the share dialog if you want sound with the recording. The file is WebM video, which VLC, Chrome, Edge, and Firefox all play.

How to record your screen

  1. Click Start recording. Your browser shows a dialog listing the screens, windows, and browser tabs you can share.
  2. Pick one source. If you want sound, tick the audio checkbox the dialog offers before you confirm.
  3. Record. The timer counts the elapsed time, and Pause and Resume hold the recording without ending it.
  4. Click Stop and save. A preview opens with the duration and file size, and Download video saves the WebM file.

Screen recorder questions

Is my recording uploaded anywhere?

No. Your browser captures and encodes the video on your device, and the file stays in the page until you download it. There is no server-side storage, and the site never sees the recording.

Why WebM and not MP4?

Chrome, Edge, and Firefox all encode WebM (VP9 or VP8) directly through the browser's MediaRecorder API, while MP4 recording support varies by browser. WebM plays in VLC and in every Chromium-based browser, and YouTube and other video platforms accept WebM uploads directly.

Where is the file saved?

Through your browser's normal download flow. Click Download video and the browser saves the file, named like screen-recording-2026-01-31-143005.webm, to the folder it uses for downloads. The site keeps no copy of the recording.

Does it record system audio?

Only if your browser offers it at share time and you tick the audio checkbox in the dialog. Chrome and Edge on Windows can share system audio, Chrome can share the audio of a shared tab, and Firefox can share tab audio. Some browsers and operating systems offer no audio at all, which leaves the recording video-only.
