Raw Dog Food Calculator
Daily and per-meal raw food portions from your dog's ideal weight, life stage, and activity, with the published percentage band shown alongside. The math runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
The method
- The portion is a percentage of body weight per day. Bella & Duke's raw feeding guide puts adult maintenance between 2% and 3% of body weight, applied from the smallest to the largest breeds.
- Puppies run between 4% and 10% per the same guide's puppy charts. The calculator interpolates from 10% at 8 weeks to 4% at 6 months, then holds 4% to 12 months.
- Activity picks the point in the adult band: low activity sits at 2%, average at 2.5%, and high activity at 3%. Seniors use the same band with closer monitoring.
- Daily grams are weight in kg times 1000 times the percentage, rounded to whole grams, then split across meals.
How to use
- Enter your dog's ideal body weight in kilograms. For an overweight dog, use the target weight, not the current one.
- Pick the life stage. Puppies also need an age in months, and adults and seniors pick an activity level.
- Choose how many meals the daily amount splits into, one or two.
- Weigh the food for a week, check your dog's body condition, and adjust the percentage rather than switching amounts at random.
Frequently asked questions
Is my dog's weight uploaded or stored anywhere?
No. The weight, stage, and meal inputs are used inside your browser tab and the math runs there. Nothing is sent to a server, nothing is saved on our side, and nothing is written to your browser's storage. The site sets no cookies and has no accounts; if an ad is shown, the ad network follows its own policies but never receives what you typed.
What percentage should I feed?
The raw feeding guide from Bella & Duke puts adult maintenance between 2% and 3% of body weight per day, and its puppy guide puts growth between 4% and 10%, with an 8-week-old puppy near 10% and a 6-month-old near 4%. This calculator sits you inside those published bands: activity picks the point for adults and seniors, and age drives the puppy number between the guide's example points.
How many meals a day?
The calculator splits the daily amount into one or two meals. Most adult dogs eat two meals a day and some do fine on one. Puppies usually need smaller, more frequent meals, three or four a day in the weeks after weaning, so treat the per-meal figure as the daily amount divided your own way.
What about senior dogs?
The guides this calculator follows give seniors the same 2% to 3% band as adults, with a warning that some seniors need a little more to keep muscle and others need less as they slow down. Start in the middle of the band, weigh your dog monthly, and adjust. A sudden weight change in an older dog is worth a veterinary visit.
Are raw diets safe?
Raw meat carries bacteria such as Salmonella and Listeria, and the WSAVA publishes a plain-language summary of the risks for pets and the people around them. Handle raw food like raw meat for people: keep it frozen or refrigerated, wash hands and bowls, and keep small children away from the bowl. If your dog is very young, very old, or immunocompromised, talk to a veterinarian first.
Is this veterinary advice?
No. This calculator turns published feeding ranges into grams, it is not a diet plan or a diagnosis. Puppies in particular grow at different rates by breed and size, so check growth against a puppy growth chart and body condition score, and involve a veterinarian or a board-certified veterinary nutritionist in any big feeding decision.
