How to print a practice sheet

  1. Type the name to practice: up to 24 characters, letters, spaces, and hyphens.
  2. Pick Outline for solid outlines or Dotted for a thinner, lighter outline, then set the letter size.
  3. Choose how many tracing rows print under the solid example row, and switch the top, middle, and baseline guide lines on or off.
  4. Press Print sheet and check the layout in the browser's print preview before printing.

Frequently asked questions

Does this tool store or upload my child's name?

No. The name you type stays on your device: the sheet is rendered in your browser tab and printing goes through the browser's own print dialog. Nothing is sent to a server, nothing is saved on our side, and nothing is written to your browser's storage. A child's name is exactly the kind of input that should never leave the device. The site sets no cookies and has no accounts; if an ad is shown, the ad network follows its own policies and never receives the name you typed.

Where do these sheets fit in?

Teachers print a set for the classroom and parents print a page for home practice. The generator runs in your browser: the name you type never leaves the device and nothing is stored.

Are the dotted letters really dotted?

No, and the settings panel says so. CSS cannot stroke a letter with round dots, so the dotted style draws the same outline as the outline style, thinner (1 px instead of 1.5 px), lighter (60 percent opacity), and with wider letter spacing. It works like tracing lettering, but it is not a dot-matrix font.

Does the sheet show stroke directions or numbered arrows?

No. The sheet shows a solid example row, the tracing rows, and optional top, middle, and baseline guide lines. Stroke-order arrows are not included, so show your child where each letter starts.

How do I help a child get the most out of a sheet?

Use a tripod pencil grip (thumb, index, and middle finger) and start on the solid example row. Slow, whole-letter strokes beat fast scratchy ones. A few rows per session work better than a full page, and practicing the same name across several days sticks better than many names in one sitting.

Which browsers print this correctly?

Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari all render the letter outlines. Press Print sheet to open your browser's print preview and pick the paper size there. The guide lines are marked to print even when the background graphics option is off.
