How to use

  2. Watch the stick circles: the dot shows the stick's current position, and the offset readout shows how far it sits from center. A constant nonzero offset while you are not touching the stick is drift.
  3. Press every button and pull the triggers. Buttons light up while held, and the L2 and R2 tiles show their analog values from 0.00 to 1.00 with a bar.
  4. If your controller supports rumble, a vibration test button appears. Pressing it fires one short dual-rumble effect and nothing else.

Does the gamepad tester see anything I do?

Nothing leaves your machine. Button presses, stick positions, and trigger values are read from the browser's Gamepad API inside this tab and are never recorded, stored, or sent anywhere. The page sets no cookies. Ad slots on the page are served by third-party networks, which follow their own privacy policies.

Why does nothing happen until I press a button?

Browsers hide gamepads from web pages until the user touches them, which is a privacy rule of the Gamepad API itself. A connected but idle controller does not exist as far as the page is concerned. Press any button or move a stick and the controller appears here immediately.

Which controllers work?

Xbox, PlayStation, Switch Pro, and most generic pads work in current Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari, over USB or Bluetooth. The tester shows the mapping your browser reports: pads with standard mapping carry the familiar A, B, X, Y, and trigger labels, while unmapped pads fall back to numbered buttons.

How do I read the stick drift readout?

A healthy stick sits at 0.00 offset from center when you are not touching it, and small readings up to about 0.05 are normal hardware deadzone. Watch the offset while the stick rests: a constant value above that, or a dot that visibly hangs off center, is drift. If the drift is small, your controller's own deadzone may be hiding it in games; a large one means the stick module is wearing out.

Why is there no vibration test on my controller?

The vibration button only appears when the browser exposes a rumble actuator for your pad, which today means Chromium-based browsers and many USB or Bluetooth pads. Safari and some controllers do not expose it, and the API gives the page no way to fake it.
